SHINJI OHMAKI
SHINJI OHMAKI
Focusing on concepts that are familiar yet beyond consciousness, the artist works on the theme of what ‘existence’ means. Ohmaki does this by exploring concepts such as shadows and darkness, the threshold between opposing values, and minorities that are lost in an ever-changing society. Using keywords like space, time, gravity, and memory, he attempts to create a physical time-space to approach the ambiguous and elusive “existence” through a wide variety of materials and techniques. Major works include the ECHO series, Liminal Air, Memorial Rebirth, Flotage, the House series, and Gravity and Grace. He actively exhibits his work not only in Japan but also in galleries and museums around the world.
